So, it finally happened and they closed them all down ...
... and tonight is the last Drive-In movie in this small American town.
that hung in our windows like hands,
They'll shut off the lights and turn off those cheap box speakers...
connecting us all through a web of wires.
While someone's outside the fence, watching voiceless words and a twenty foot tall breast.
And I'm looking at the big picture too -
No family outings, no lovers shouting,
no head lights, no cold nights,
warm blankets and hugs.
No soft secret proposals driving plush back seat dreamers high into ecstasy.
Tonight is the last...
Just like the last aborigine, high on a mountain top,
performing the ritual that calls forth each spring.
While his son lives and works in the city
He doesn't believe in the old ways.
So maybe spring won't come next year
and we'll all have to warm ourselves
by the blue T.V. screen light
watching the latest blockbuster release on video.
And only dream ...
of the last Drive-In Movie
Old men and Drive-Ins...
They share a common fate these days
Tonight is the last....
Tonight is the last Drive-In Movie
